Amber's Journal

Today a lot of our time was taken up by abandoning our happy home at the Sea Temple, and boarding a plane for Uluru. This flight wasn't as comfy as our transatlantic one-I was stuck between David and a woman of generous enough proportions to make me feel moderately claustrophobic. Not much legroom either.

Our new home was the Desert Gardens in the resort "town" of Yulara which consists of a few sprawling hotels, a grocery store (much larger than the teeny one in Palm Cove!) and a couple restaurants.

Today after getting to our new home, we walked around a bit, stretched the legs back out, and then headed out for a nice buffet dinner. This was supposed to be an outdoor barbecue, but there'd been rain just before we came, so that was canceled. We did have a guy playing the digeridoo for us, and an astronomer took us outside after dinner for a really good talk about the Southern star constellations. It was so strange to look at the stars... and to not see one thing familiar! It was so clear that we could even make our branches of the Milky Way which is just a reminder that we're on a "unfashionable arm" of the galaxy to quote Hitchiker's Guide to the Universe!
