Amber's Journal

Day 2:

Today was our tour of the semiruined Heidleburg Castle.  It was partially blown up by the Palantine princes of Heidleburg to keep it from falling into enemy hands—“If I can’t have it, neither will you!” What still stands is indeed regal, and the two largest casks for wine are owned by this castle.  Apparently there was somewhat of a fad to own the largest wine cask in Germany, and Heidleburg was the clear winner.  One of the members of our tour had just completed school to become a pharmacist, and what did Heidelburg castle have but a lovely apothecary museum?  After the castle, we wandered around the city with Mom for a bit and did a bit more shopping in the historic district.
