Day 4: Today Mom split off from David and myself. We took a bike tour around the artificial lake through the forest. This was a wonderful route through lush green woods, but there were a couple of stiff hills, one at the beginning and one at the end. I did have to dismount and walk my bike for the second hill, but thankfully I wasn’t the only one, so maybe I’m not too out of shape! Throughout the bike tour, I halfway expected to see little guys with hairy feet to scamper across the path, a dragon to poke its’ head of the trees, or maybe to have a fairy flutter by! While we biked, Mom and some of the other members of our tour relaxed on a short cruise around the lake, and after our tour we joined them. I was glad by then of being able to put my feet up, grab a cold drink and watch the scenery go by without me having to pedal! After a lovely barbecue lunch we had an archery lesson! Mom, David and I all did pretty well with our shots! I actually hit the bull’s eye at one point—a bit on the edge of it, but it counted! Then David and I explored Castle Waldeck’s little museum. This covered the castle’s history as a noble residence, prison, and then hotel, and also covered a bit of crime, punishment, and legal torture—all the cheery things you know! We took in a bit of the town, and even rode a little tram ride that reminded me of Disney’s old sky tram ride, so it was a real moment of nostalgia for me! |
