Amber's Journal - Day 9:

Today we definitely had a different sort of day! We were taken out to see a tiny Greek mountain village. The funniest fact? We had more people on the tour bus than were in the town! I think the locals enjoyed watching us as much as we enjoyed seeing them and their cute but often steeply pitched village! We met Andrea, a local shepherd man who raises sheep and goats and milks them. We got a demonstration of his flocks being rounded up and he milked some of his goats for us. The town is steep, many of the roads are worn, some houses are yawning emptily, but the houses are cared for, their gardens are filled with vegetables, and pots of flowers overflow on their doorsteps. Life looks very relaxed, traditional, and quiet here. No Facebook, no highways, no neighbors you don't know...life here does have some appeal.

We had a cheesemaking demonstration with our shepherd, and then went to a local know-it-or-you'll-never-find-it little taverna for the required big Greek lunch. The little tiny lady who owns the taverna did a cheese pie making demonstration for us--these pies are like a turnover served cold with honey.

That night was our last with our group. We had a great party with a Greek buffet, Disney slide show of the trip, hugs, tears, Greek dancing and even us getting up to boogie on down Greek style!
