Amber's Journal: Day 7

If you've seen a poster in a Chinese restaurant with misty, gumdrop shaped mountains...you've seen the Guilin or Gumdrop mountains!  David and I have reliably amazing trip luck--it usually doesn't rain when we have activities.  Here...it did rain BUT this was a good thing.  You want rain here because it makes the mountains look misty and romantic--people get pissy when it fails to rain on their boat tours!  It's actually almost impossible to take a bad photo here--it's so intensely scenic that every which way you look is another gnarled or romantically shaped outcrop of heartbreakingly lovely rocks.  This is an amazing side of China.

We took a long, lazy boat cruise down the Li river--Steven and Jennae had packed lunches for us--apparently Disney doesn't fully trust the cooking hygiene of the boats.  We did have a deep fried critter tasting--tiny fish and crabs, and had some snake wine--ie, critter-preserving moonshine as diversions too!

After the calm boat tour we got turned loose for shopping in the marketplace of Yangshuo.  We got things for a white elephant gift exchange, a few great souvenirs for taking home and a lot more pictures--heck, the shops selling tea alone are worth taking pictures of.  I've never seen so MUCH tea in one place--walls upon walls of bricks of compresses tea!  Enough to make a caffeine addict jitter for three lifetimes!
