Amber's Journal: Day 11Today we got to know Hong Kong! We shopped in Stanley market under a rainstorm romantically pattering on the marketplace's roof. (Oooh the tempting bargains to make my poor suitcase cry in fear!) I think my best buy was a jersey Japanese wave pattern skirt--it's elegant but as comfy as sweats! After a little retail therapy we went up to Victoria Peak to look down upon Hong Kong! After the little squall we had perfect viewing weather and a crystal clear view of the city below. It's a little like being a god on Mount Olympus--but fear not Hong Kong, our guides wouldn't let us play with thunderbolts! (Without proper supervision...) After lunch and a huge plate of watermelon dessert (China took months to recover its supplies of watermelon I hear...) we hopped a bus for....Disneyland! Disneyland Hong Kong is....weird. It's home, but not home. It's amazingly familiar, but all kinds of odd details suddenly catch your eye...and you remember that you're in a foreign country. I mean...squids on a stick, honey mustard popcorn, the Haunted Mansion being replaced by the (very cool and AMAZING) Mystic Manor and...WHEN DER HECK HAS DISNEYLAND HAD MOUNTAINS AROUND IT?? I loved every minute of it. Mystic Manor was totally my favorite--the effects were great, I loved the story, and the ride is smooth as glass! I want Haunted Mansion AND Mystic Manor in our park in CA! It'd be GREAT! Tonight was our farewell dinner too at Disneyland. Seeing the Farewell film is always great--it's the first time we see our guide's shots, and they make us look great. It's always sad though to see the fun end though--this was another great trip and certainly one of our most memorable! |
