Vacation 2015
Yore Way to Norway - Norway
Adventure by Disney trip #11
The
vacation of 2015 takes us to the prettiest place I've ever
visited. Norway is mostly still wild, with lots of forests,
rivers, waterfalls, and of course their famous fjords (Slartibartfast
should be proud.) It's also a rather cold place, so you'll see us rather well bundled in pretty much every outdoor picture.
All of the daily journals are
arranged that the top half are David's pictures and the bottom half are
Amber's pictures.

The first day of our trip is
our arrival in Bergen, near the western coast. We arrived at
mid-day, so we had a few hours to wander around Bergen and see the
sites before we returned to our hotel for our welcome dinner. We
meet our newest guides in our ever expanding collection, Drew &
Torgier (pronounced Tour Guy, was he born for this job or what?) |

|
The second day of our trip is the first day
of the "real adventure", we start off by going white water rafting,
then go and see some magnificent waterfalls, and then go to Flåm, and
stay at the historic Fretheim Hotel.
|
|
The third day we start off
taking a RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat) on a Fjord Safari, looking for
wildlife and to see the sights from the fjord. We visit our first
Stave Church in Undredal. And then go for a hike through the forest around Flåm. |
|
The fifth day has us visit
the Borgund Stave Church, which is pretty much the iconic look of Stave
Churches always used in movies. You look at this place, and you
go, "Oh yeah, that's what they're supposed to look like." Then we
stop by Brævasshytta for lunch overlooking the Bøyabreen glacier.
|
|
We start the day off going to the Kjenndal Valley, to visit Kjenndalstova, for going out on a rowboat,
and doing a nature walk. Then we visit Briksdal Glacier, the
largest glacier on the Erropean mainland. We then take a ferry
ride to Geiranger, where I discover the joy and wonder that is Taco
Pizza, the best pizza I have ever had in my life, and I've had pizza in
Italy. (Fun fact: Norway eats more pizza per capita than any
other country in the world.) |

|
A very early morning starts
with a hike up to a local farm called Westeras (no relation to Westeros
or Game of Thrones). The hike was a "2", meaning an easy hike,
but those Norweigans are a heartier bunch than I, because this 3 mile
hike had a 1000 foot altitude gain. It's hard to go up 1000 feet
over 3 miles. We fed some goats, and then went for a couple more
hikes, one to a lookout point over the Fjord, and the other up to a
local waterfall.

|
The last "real" day of our
adventure, we take a train from Otta to Oslo, and then explore Oslo on
our own. We end with our farewell dinner at the Grand Hotel Oslo. |
|
This day is us departing to the airport and flying home.
Pictures for this day are some of our favorite photos taken by the adventure guides throughout the trip.
